Pretend Play – Mail Set

My mom made this pretend play mail set for B. It contains 8 envelopes, 8 messages, 8 address labels, and 8 stamps all hand sewn on felt.

I love it because of the hours of pretend play he will have with it and my hope is he will start to recognize different names in our family and different words/sentiments. B loves it because there are so many choices and he likes to put things in and take things out of the envelopes.

I wanted to show off this mail set because I wanted to brag about my mom for a minute but also because for other sewers out there, she said it was a very simple project with easy stitches and my thought was you could make your own. If you are like me and yours wouldn’t turn out like this, you could make a pretend mail set out of paper, stickers for stamps, envelopes, and cardstock messages.

This is a gorgeous set – your mom is a great crafter. I am like you and did a mail center with paper envelopes. Unfortunately, they are going too fast, because daughter insists on stuffing them, sealing them and “mailing” them out of sight.

I keep meaning to make some felt mail like this. And she is right they are fairly simple stitches. I love when people post what they’ve made (or found, or had given to them) because it gives me inspiration, thanks for posting!

What a wonderful gift for a child 🙂 It will not only inspire imaginative play but also how much will he love opening and closing them and putting things in them – we all know how much kids enjoy that!

I did a random search to get ideas for a mail set I want to make for my friend’s daughter and I’m so happy I came across your post. I love it’s simplicity and the fact I could probably sew it all by hand (my in laws live out of state so a perfect car ride project!) My creative wheels are turning. Thanks for posting!
