Summer Challenge – Week 2 – Play with Water and Ice
Pick one to try this week.
Too hot or too cold to be outside? Need something for your child to do while you cook a meal? Inside water play is perfect and here are tips for how to organize it and keep it from getting messy.
Freeze some of your child’s favorite characters in a large container of water. Pop it out of the container and use tools to set your characters free. You can also use salt to melt the ice.
Practice fine motor skills with a simple and fun water transferring challenge.
The classic sink or float experiment is so fun for preschoolers and toddlers. Gather materials from your toy box and start investigating.
Can you control the cup and water enough to stop pouring at the line? This challenge is tricky, but helps gain wrist control.
Colored ice cubes, tongs, and a slotted spoon make this ice cube transfer exciting to try!
What is the fastest way to melt an ice cube? A free, printable dice game to help you experiment.
A cool sensory experience and fun to scoop, pour, and squish. Adult supervision is required with water beads.

Such a fun way to use recyclables to experiment with force, motion, and gravity.

So much fun! Glad you gave it a try. Ice and even a couple drops of food coloring add a new twist to the activity too.

Thanks for the ideas! We did the indoor water play...except we did it outdoors! I found some great little cups at the dollar store and my daughter went to town with pouring and transferring the water to different containers. She had great fun!
