Leaf Counting Game

Leaf Counting Game
This Leaf Counting Game is the perfect way to welcome Fall while identifying numbers, sequencing, and counting.

Materials:
10 leaves (silk or real) and write the numbers 1-10 on them with a permanent marker.

First, put the leaves in both hands and throw them up in the air as high as you can. This was by far N’s favorite part of the game!

Then, pick up the leaves in numerical order. Start with 1 and hunt for each leaf until you get to 10.
When you collect all 10 leaves, you win! The leaves are in your hands and ready to throw again.

Other Variations:
  • Start at 10 and pick up the leaves while counting backwards.
  • Throw the leaves and then ask your child to pick up certain numbers. “Can you find the 4?” “Can you find the number that shows how old you are?” “Can you find the number that comes after 2?”
  • Write the numbers 2-12 on your leaves. Roll 2 dice. Pick up the leaf that shows the number that you rolled. When all of the leaves are picked up, you win!
