Growing up in Arizona, an annual trip to San Diego meant one thing – the beach!! Now that I am a mother of 3, and living in South Orange County, San Diego is so much more!
It’s fun to rediscover a city, and San Diego is such an incredibly family friendly vacation spot. Whether it’s a quick day trip or an extended weekend getaway, there are more activities to do, than time will allow. And in October there are 100+ Activities that are FREE for Kids!
Last October, we took advantage of the Kids Free San Diego October Specials and took a day trip to the San Diego Zoo. It was the first for my husband and my 3 girls, and we absolutely loved it!
Be sure to ride the Skyfari Aerial Tram which gives you not only a great view of the park, but an opportunity to see the animals from a whole new perspective. We rode it 3 times, we just couldn’t get enough!
Also, the double-decker bus tour was a great way to get a feeling for the different areas of the park, as well as a close up look at some of the animals in their habitats. The girls loved how close we were to view the animals.
Be sure to stop at one of the great local restaurants San Diego has to offer during your visit. We found an incredible bakery in the Del Mar Heights Town Center, called Village Mill Bread Company. It is now a place we stop at each time we visit San Diego. They have wonderful breads and cookies, but their fruit pies are simply the best! You won’t regret adding this sweet spot to your itinerary! Check out which restaurants offer deals during October with Kids Free San Diego.
On a trip this spring, we met friends at Balboa Park, which offers over 15 museums, all in one location, as well as street performers, and beautiful gardens. We spent an afternoon there, and never even made it inside a museum.
They loved climbing on the “mosaic lizard and exploring the different gardens. ”You need more than a day to experience all Balboa Park has to offer.
Be sure to take advantage of the free shuttle taking you from the parking lot, at Inspiration Point, directly to the heart of Balboa Park. I would have gladly paid for the tram, my girls enjoyed it so much and it was such a convenience getting us to and from our car, but what a great treat to have it be a free tram!
There are over 100 activities that are free for kids during October. The carousal, railroad, and puppet theater are top on our list for our next visit, as is the art museum. It is free year-round and they listed artists that were represented on a sign outside. I am looking forward to teaching my girls about a few of the artists in advance, then revisiting the park so that they can appreciate and see the work of those artists in the Timken Museum of Art.
What has your family tried and enjoyed in San Diego? What are you looking forward to trying during Kids Free San Diego?
