Here’s an easy Christmas rock painting craft for kids, a reindeer rock craft. Make a family of reindeer rocks for under the Christmas tree or your porch this holiday season.
Recently I shared ideas for painted rocks for kids and they were such a hit that I wanted to share a few Christmas rock painting ideas. Cute Christmas rocks under the tree or on the mantle make me smile.
Rock art is so much fun! It is a great way to make memories together as you sit around the table creating painted rocks. Painting rocks with an abstract design or bright colors is just as awesome as making rocks that look like something.
While looking at rock painting step by step tutorials, remember that acrylic paint is best to use. Paint pens are another great option. They are often easier to control than a paint brush.
Supplies:
- round rock
- brown acryclic paint
- paint brushes
- googly eyes
- red pom pom
- brown pipe cleaners
- brown paper or felt
- hot glue gun
- Mod Podge (optional)
Using brown acrylic paint, paint a layer of paint on the rock. I always paint the top part first, wait for it to dry, and then paint the other side. If one coat of paint doesn’t seem to cover the rock, add one more coat of paint.
Use a hot glue gun to attach 2 googly eyes. You can also use a white paint pen to paint the eyes. Once the white oval is dry, add a black circle to the middle.
Glue a pom pom nose on below the eyes. If you don’t have a pom pom, a button or sequin would also work. Or use red paint to make the nose.
Wrap each pipe cleaner around your finger or a pencil to make it curly. Glue the pipe cleaners to the top (backside) of the rock. If you don’t have fuzzy pipe cleaners, regular pipe cleaners will work too.
For the ears, cut out two triangles from brown paper and glue them on the top. You can also use brown craft foam or felt for ears.
Your reindeer rock craft is complete!
Ready for another easy rock craft? Try this Grinch Rock Craft
A Grinch rock is another one of my great project ideas for the Christmas season. For this Grinch Rock, paint the rock green. After it dries, add black lines for the nose and mouth.
Draw small ovals for eyes. Paint yellow inside the ovals. Once it dries, add red dots. Use paper, a pipe cleaner, and a pom pom for a Santa hat.
A Classic Reindeer Craft
This is my favorite reindeer craft and keepsake! I love anything with a handprint! Turning your child’s handprint into a reindeer is simple and easy.
Just cut out the handprint and add a small circle for the eye (or a googly eye) and a red pom pom for the nose (or a red dot). Add a red ribbon (or green) to turn it into an ornament and hang it up. Don’t forget to right the date on the back. Every year you can reminisce looking at the small handprint.
Reuse a small jar to make this reindeer mason jar Christmas craft that is fun and easy for kids to make. It makes an adorable gift or decoration!
